Tobacco Control

The College will be offering a clustered learning module on Tobacco Control. Work continues on developing this resource with funds from NSW Health to develop Tobacco Control education and assessment resources. The Reference group has met and decided on key content and structure. Brianna Pike will be in charge of the writing/development of this course.  

Good Medicines Better Health

NPS have advised that they have been funded to deliver 2 more courses of Good Medicine Better Health. That there is strong interest in NSW and 70% of respondents said we were the provider of choice.  

Hearing and Ear Health (Otis Media)

The draft materials have been developed and the Aboriginal Health College has been selected as a pilot site. Information will be sent to Member Services in the immediate future seeking participants.

Eye Care

A short course was run by ICEE in June 2011 with one day at the Aboriginal Health College.

Diploma of Enrolled Nursing

We are currently developing an Enrolled Nursing Course to be delivered by the College. Leaenda Ingram to be the primary writer/developer with expertise in this area. A recent Reference Group meeting has given structure to this new course. The proposed HLT43407 Certificate IV course has been dropped due to it being phased out nationally and the HLT51607 Diploma course is now the entry level for this qualification. Preparation for the application for accreditation of this course by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council is well underway and course content development continues.

Alcohol and Other Drug Work - Infant and Maternal Health

We are currently developing a Clustered learning module for this area of training. Melanie Briggs to be the primary writer/developer with expertise in this area of Infant and Maternal health.

Sexual Health

The Certificate IV in and Diploma of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander  Primary health Care (Community Care) focus on Sexual Health course has been given new structure. A recent Reference Group meeting agreed on the following new areas of specialisations STI/BBV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual and reproductive health. Brianna Pike and Melanie Briggs is to be the primary writer/developer with expertise in this area, Course content development continues on these elective specialisations.

The Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales (AH&MRC) is the peak body for Aboriginal Health in NSW.

The Aboriginal Health College is the result of a long term vision of the Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of New South Wales to establish and maintain an Aboriginal community controlled educational institution to provide culturally appropriate accredited education courses in Aboriginal health.
